Description

The International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004 (BWM Convention), entered into force globally on 8th September 2017.  The convention affects more than 99% of the world fleet and requires a Ballast Water Management Plan with a suitable staff training scheme. The main aim of this course is to familiarize candidates with the Convention so that they can contribute to compliance with the training requirements in the convention.  They will become familiar with ballast water treatment and exchange and understand the goal of eliminating the risks to the environment, human health, property and resources arising from ships' ballast water and sediments.

On completion of this course a Certificate of Completion will be issued by Ocean Technologies Group, powered by Marlins, Seagull and Videotel.

This course is intended for completion while on board, but trainees can also undertake it under examination conditions at the company office, as long as they have access to their vessels' documentation

Please note:  The assessment part of this course must be completed onboard ship or onshore in the offices of a registered shipping company or maritime institution. What you'll learn

The learning objective of this course is to enable officers and crew onboard ships to become familiar with the ballast water management methods commonly used to meet the requirements of the International Convention for the Control and Management of ships' Ballast Water and sediments

Minimise environmental damage caused by the transfer of ballast water.

Prerequisites

Candidates taking this course should have access The International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM Convention).
